4Ocean was founded in 2015, by 2 men called Alex and Andrew. They were just about to go surfing in Bali, Indonesia, when they saw litter all over the beach. They asked why it hadn’t been looked after, and the reply was shocking. They said the beach had just been cleaned. And already, it was really messy. So the 2 men decided to create a charity called 4ocean, an ocean clean up company. As well as picking up litter, they make bracelets (I’m wearing one now!) and every time you purchase one, 1 pound of trash is removed from beaches. The bracelets are made entirely from old, used plastic. They have glass beads, and rope to tie them together. Don’t worry though, they are given a thorough clean first!

The 4Ocean signature bracelet.

But 4Ocean isn’t just good for the planet, it’s good for people too! They hire people from poor countries and they make bracelets for a good amount of money, so they can afford a living. They also hire people to go out in special boats, to clean litter out of the ocean with nets. They are careful they don’t hurt the underwater creatures. They help the local communities by cleaning up litter, so no one is hurt.

The bracelets are also named after sea creatures, because when you buy that animals bracelet, the money goes to conserving that animal. I got a orca one, and a penguin one, and I ordered a coral reef one a few minutes ago! I also made a video about 4Ocean for my YouTube channel, Ecology Girl, so look out for that!
